Jack & Jill Bathroom Renovation
This bathroom was one of the craziest I had ever seen. It had a tiny pony (half) wall in the middle of the room, with the plumbing running through it. The room was tiled everywhere, not just on the walls and floor which is normal, but on the ceiling as well. This type of room makes sense when there is a shower, but there wasn't one. I love taking baths, I would live in one if I could, but even I know not having a shower is a bad idea. That all being said, it had a thoughtful layout. I loved that the sink area was separated from the rest of the bathroom, making it easier for two people to share the same space. I liked that each room has control over its own vanity light and that the sinks sat diagonally from each other. This was important for my kids since one is clean, and the other is very messy.
We started by gutting the whole thing, and I have never taken so much tile out in my life. It was heavy and messy, and cost twice as much to dump. If you haven’t noticed in my other posts, I am very cheap. I’m big on saving labor costs and DIY everything, but after much deliberation, we decided to hire help for most of this room. My uncles came in and installed new insulation and drywall, my plumber husband installed all new piping and drains, we hand textured the room together ourselves, and then brought in the tile guy. We had originally planned to have him do only the shower, but he offered us such a good rate to add in the flooring we went with that as well.
We went with simple white subway tiles for the walls and white penny rounds for the shower floor. We wanted something simple since the bathroom floor was going to be so loud. We added black framed glass shower doors, and then the beautiful black & white Italian patterned tile. Satin gold hardware was used to warm up the room, and give it a rich modern feel. We went with live edge shelves above the toilet and sinks with Carrara marble tops. One of my favorite features is the infinity effect in the mirrors, a happy accident we found after installation. This bathroom turned out beyond my wildest dreams, and I kinda wish it were mine instead of the kids.
