The Dairy Cows
Herd Management
We believe that it is our duty to make sure that the animals in our care live their very best lives, as such we work closely with a ranch veterinarian to make sure that they stay in good health. It is our belief that animals should be treated based on their health rather than preemptively, therefore we only treat animals with injectables if it is required for life-saving measures. In the event that it is needed all withhold times are doubled. We routinely test for worms and only deworm as needed.
Our cattle are raised on pasture and supplemented with non-GMO feed, hay, and loose mineral. The herd is too small to justify keeping a bull on-site, therefore AI is utilized yearly. This practice enables us to use only the best samples and protects our girls from the spread of diseases brought in from shared bulls. We do not bottle feed our calves, and instead practice milk sharing. This practice does reduce the amount of milk we receive daily, but it is what is best for both the mother and baby so we are happy to share.
