For those following along on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen this, but I love it so much I needed to add it properly into Donnelly Family Farm history. Our new pig pasture is finally completed and right in time for all the wet winter madness. Last year we struggled with hot wires shorting out, mudslides trenching ditches under the fence, and old rotty wood posts falling over. Thankfully we have well-behaved pigs, so every escape was manageable. One of the main jobs of keeping livestock is making sure they are safe and contained. All summer, Shawn and I discussed installing new fencing but with so many other projects going on there never seemed to be any extra money in the budget to do it. Then one-night wasting time on Pinterest, and I saw pictures of old recycled pallets being used to build animal pens. We thought it would be a cheap and easy solution to our problem, so we started looking for free pallets the next day. It took six truckloads to get them all here and four long weekends building it, but all said and done, the project only cost us $100 and saved countless pallets from going to the landfills.
