DIY Feather Wreath
We don’t keep roosters on the farm. When shopping for new chicks, we always try to buy sexed pullets, but we still end up with a few roosters ever year. Once they hit maturity, we either rehome them or send them to freezer camp. I try to honor the bird's life by making sure every part of it is put to use. I currently have boxes full of cleaned, washed, and dried feathers. I use most of them to make jewelry, but I had this fun idea to turn them into a feather wreath for my hallway.
I got a round styrofoam form from the dollar store, and used my hot glue gun to attach the feathers. I started out using my high heat gun but quickly found out that it wasn’t a good idea (ouch), so I switched to my mini low heat gun. It took the span of a movie to glue all the feathers down just the way my neurotic brain wanted them. I originally planned to only use feathers, but after looking at it for a while I realized it needed a little more fancy. I got out my jewelry making supplies and used copper wire to make a hook on the back and to sting some raw turquoise stones around it. Then I used a leather strip to thread some raw quartz crystals around. Voila, I was all done, a fancy new wreath for my wall.
